Second and Third Conjugation Verbs

Now we are going to look at the second and third conjugations (ie. verbs that end in 'er' and 'ir').  The principle is the same as for first conjugation ('ar') verbs – the pattern for each is the same for all regular verbs of the same conjugation.  Take a few minutes (or hours!) trying to memorise the endings for each type of verb.

The second conjugation regular verb:  comer (to eat).
como
comemos
comes
comeis
come
comem

The second conjugation regular verb:  escrever (to write).
escrevo
escrevemos
escreves
escreveis
escreve
escrevem

The third conjugation regular verb:  discernir (to discern).
discernodiscernimos
discernesdiscernis
discerne
discernem

The third conjugation regular verb:  assistir (to attend; to watch)
assisto
assistimos
assistes
assistis
assiste
assistem

You've not mentioned 4th conjugation verbs that all come from 'pôr'

These were explained earlier: www.learningportuguese.co.uk/language/verbs-conjugation.html (they are generally referred to as 2nd conjugation, not 4th)

Hello friends!

The verb " Pôr" conjugation (2nd conjugation) is :

Present Indicative

Singular:

1 - Eu ponho
2 - Tu pões
(2) - (Você) põe
3 - o Sr., a Sra., Ele, Ela põe

Plural :

1 - Nós pomos
2 - Vós pondes
(2) - (Vocês) põem
3 - os Srs., as Sras., Eles, Elas põem

All the verbs ending in "por" like compor, dispor, impor, contrapor, repor, opor, etc. are conjugated in the same way.
;)

Sorry guys, but "pôr" and all he verbs that end in "pôr" or "por" are from the 3rd conjugation, not 2nd. Just a technical detail ;)
2nd, not 3rd

I checked several references, and they all agreed that -or verbs are generally considered to belong to the 2nd conjugation. For example:

what is the diffrence between conhser or saber?
Conhecer/Saber
Written by Administrator on 2010-03-16 19:52:04 IP: 81.103.153.54
Conhecer means 'to be familiar with', and is usually used with reference to people or places (eg. 'I know him well'). Saber means 'to know' as in to know a fact or how to do something (eg. 'Sei nadar' = 'I know how to swim').
